The Brief
Hobson’s Choice had previously worked with Kim and Iain on their Clapham Common property back in 2010. When they decided to move out of London, they approached us again to help with the remodelling of their country house in the Surrey Hills.
The Design
We worked closely with Kim and her Interior Designer, David Wright, in what was a completely remodelled home. The objective, to create an open plan kitchen/dining space that flowed smoothly into the original rooms linked to the kitchen.
One striking aspect of the new house is the cantilevered corner glazing that opens up the kitchen to the garden. The superb setting of the cottage provided a perfect opportunity to maximise this feature.
Kim is a very keen cook, so the practical requirements of the kitchen were equally as important as the aesthetic style. She was closely involved in the design approach and functionality of the kitchen. The combination of colours and oak veneer finishes help delineate the kitchen zones and the worktop then ties the low runs together.
The bulthaup b3 function wall, here in alpine white glass, provides space for utensils and accessories to be positioned within easy reach. Above sits the iconic wedge shape of the bulthaup extractor.
Having enjoyed the ease of use and fantastic cooking results of the Gaggenau 400 series ovens in her previous home, Kim was keen to have the same appliances in her new kitchen.
