The Brief

The clients approached Hobson’s Choice with a vision to modernise their master en-suite into a serene, minimalist retreat. They desired a spacious walk-in shower, a freestanding bath, and a large vanity unit to ensure ample storage. During the initial site visit, it became evident that there was an opportunity to optimise the functionality of the entire space, including the adjoining master bedroom and walk-in wardrobe. What started as a bathroom refresh evolved into a multi-room transformation.

The Design

Designer Pieter Du Toit crafted a comprehensive plan to harmonise style and function across the spaces. Recognising the potential to enhance usability, he proposed repositioning the wall between the master en-suite and dressing room to accommodate Rimadesio Cover wardrobes. These full-depth wardrobes offered ample storage while maintaining a sleek, seamless aesthetic that continued throughout all the rooms.

The master en-suite’s transformation balances practicality with luxury. A standout feature is the deep freestanding bathtub with its sweeping curves. This centrepiece exudes spa-like luxury while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. Above the bath is a recessed shelf featuring white tiles, contrasting beautifully with the surrounding wood-effect tiled wall. This deliberate juxtaposition emphasises the niche , ideal for displaying the client’s bathing products in a serene setting.

The lighting plan enhances the ambiance with two circuits: one for overhead ceiling lights and another for mood lighting. LED strips in the shower and bath niches, along with a pin light above the WC, provide both practicality and a calming atmosphere.

The room’s striking wood-effect tile wall spans one side of the en-suite, bringing warmth and texture to the space. These tiles contrast harmoniously with the white tiles that cover the other walls and floor, enhancing the room's modern and airy feel. To balance the space, recessed shelves on the opposite wall—one in the shower and another above the WC—also feature the wood-effect tiles, giving the impression of them subtly “peeking through” the white. This thoughtful touch ties the room together visually.

A mirrored cabinet, positioned above the floating vanity, offers ample hidden storage, perfect for a couple’s dual-use space. The dual-tap sink is ideal for simultaneous use, while chrome fixtures, including the taps, overhead shower, flush plate, and bath tap, add modern appeal. Together, they create a cohesive, polished look.

Master Bedroom

In the master bedroom, functionality and attention to detail were paramount. The adjoining dressing room was transformed with Rimadesio Cover wardrobes in a warm grey-brown finish, maximising storage while creating a streamlined, luxurious aesthetic. The wardrobes complement the grey carpet and walls, warming up the space with their elegant tone.

In the bedroom itself, Rimadesio floating Self drawer units and matching bedside tables in a coordinated grey-brown finish were added, further enhancing storage options while maintaining the minimalist style. These elements worked together to create a cohesive look across all the spaces.

Due to providing the facilitating works, which included not only our expert fitting team but also a plasterer, decorator, and electrician, the lighting plan was implemented seamlessly. There was no overhead lighting in the bedroom, which contributed to its tranquil, serene atmosphere. Instead, the design focused on wall-mounted lights, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. Two-way switches at the bedside tables allowed for independent control of the individual lights, catering to the clients' differing needs.
