The Brief
Our clients approached Hobson’s Choice initially to look at kitchen and utility designs for their new build home, located in the Cotswolds. The house has an external ‘New England’ style, which the couple wished to complement through the interior.
The Design
The homeowners liked the clean lines and high-quality engineering of the bulthaup b3 system. Material surfaces, textured oak and gravel laminate tied the kitchen layout to the weathered oak effect floor tiles and real wood panelling details.
At a recent tour of the Miele Experience Centre, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, the couple had been 'wowed' by the latest handleless appliances. The black glass fronted ovens integrate seamlessly into the dark, tall units providing incredible cooking functionality.
As keen cooks, the couple requested that the cooking and sink zones be separated so several people can use the kitchen without disrupting each other. The island and sink run have bulthaup b3 laminate worktops and a Quooker Cube that provides, boiling, filtered and sparkling water in one tap.
Due to the high ceilings, rather than have a typical industrial looking island cooker hood, our clients preferred the look of a minimal bulkhead that mimics the size of the island and houses an extractor and downlights.
The couple wanted the large kitchen to be open plan with the dining area, bridged by a bar top seating and staging area. To give a greater degree of visual separation we were asked to design a bespoke fireplace. The treated timber panelling and integrated fireplace provide an eye-catching centrepiece whilst breaking up the room to create a more cosy living room.
Rimadesio ‘Self Up’ handleless furniture, in matt grey glass with walnut inserts, complements the flat panel surfaces of the bulthaup b3 kitchen.
