The Brief
Our clients, were remodeling their new home in Bath, Somerset, adding a new extension to create a larger kitchen / dining space and landscaping the garden. They desired a subtle and highly functional kitchen for the new space, which would complement the interior décor and provide the perfect space for entertaining.
The Design
Due to the property location and position, our brief required consideration to natural light and views of the exterior whilst maintaining a feeling of seclusion and privacy. The whole ground floor was reconfigured as part of the project and, as the kitchen is where the couple spend the majority of their time, it was agreed it should be positioned to provide the best views.
As a result, the kitchen was moved from the front of the house to the back, creating an open-plan kitchen / dining / lounge area and making the most of the property being south-facing. The large floor-to-ceiling sliding doors created an ‘inside-outside’ room, extending the living environment out onto the patio and garden beyond.
Working with the clients at the extension design stage enabled the inclusion of the wide worktop-level window behind the sink area. It solved what the clients saw as one of their biggest challenges, bringing in natural light to the back of the new room whilst being positioned low enough to avoid being overlooked.
