The Brief

Our retired clients desired a kitchen that allowed them to be more adventurous with their cooking, provide greater functionality, and improve the layout of the space.

The kitchen formed part of a larger multi-room renovation project under-taken by Hobson’s Choice.

The Design

The kitchen layout was designed to increase preparation space and storage compared to the previous U-shaped arrangement, which was positioned in the top-right corner of the room. Ensuring the foot flow through and around the room required careful consideration due to the angled walls which narrow towards the patio doors.

The addition of a kitchen island with a BORA cooktop provides a focal point for the room and enabled a more sociable cooking experience.

Our clients enjoy contemporary design and appreciate the quality and detailing of bulthaup b3 kitchen furniture. The handleless kitchen island is finished in Sand-beige gold aluminium, shining with golden tones as the light reflects off of the surfaces.

The narrow 10mm laminate worktop is finished in Kaolin, matching the colour of the tall units behind and tying the design of the kitchen together.

The BORA Professional cooktop features an integrated re-circulating downdraft extraction system, which sucks unwanted cooking vapours into air-cleaning charcoal filters and vents out beneath the island. Tactile, machined dials positioned along the front of the island make controlling the cooktops and extractor easy to do.

By using a downdraft re-circulating system, there was no need for a cooker hood above the island which would disturb the cook’s view and the original flooring did not need to be lifted for fitting.

Maximising the available storage opportunities was an important factor in the design of the new kitchen. The island features deep drawers on the front and back, capable of storing our client’s crockery, pots and pans, cooking utensils and cutlery.

A horizontal, chest height arrangement of gloss black Miele appliances ensures the task of loading/unloading is as easy as possible. At the sink, a Quooker Fusion mixer tap provides instant 100-degree boiling hot water at the spout, perfect for making tea, blanching vegetables and cooking pasta.
